Your guide to owning an electric vehicle in the United Arab Emirates: Free parking, registration – News

As the UAE moves towards clean transportation and sustainable mobility, electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining momentum. And motorists who make the switch are reaping the benefits of going green.

Over the years, the country has invested heavily in electric vehicle infrastructure and has put in place numerous incentives to encourage more vehicle owners to trade in their regular cars for electric cars.

In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) offered electric vehicle owners free parking spaces and free Salik tags. More than 750 charging stations have also been installed across the country.

With all of these benefits, industry experts believe that there will soon be an increase in demand and growth.

“The most important and the most exciting part is when everyone switches to electric vehicles,” said Kevin Chalhoub, founder and owner of EV Lab. Khaleej Times.

“We’ve gone from horses to cars and now we’re moving to electric vehicles, so it’s not about achieving 90% market share; this is the speed at which we can go from 1% to 90%. Starting with the Expo in October, we hope that electric vehicles will no longer be a thing of the future, but of the present.

As a step in that direction, EV Lab – the first omnichannel and multi-brand electric platform of its kind – is creating brand awareness by creating pop-up stores in Dubai, allowing people to learn more about electric vehicles.

“EV Lab aims to raise awareness of electric vehicles in the region. We want people to have the chance to see, test and learn why EVs are great and why they might be a good choice for them to buy in the future, ”said the Dubai-born entrepreneur, who studied renewable energy at Stanford and worked in the solar industry.

At the mall of the Emirates laboratory pop-up store, 30,000 people came to take a look. Currently, it is presenting four models – the Tesla Model 3, the Audi RS e-tron GT, the future Bolt EUV and the new Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4, the first plug-in hybrid – at City Center Mirdif.

“More than 1,000 people expressed their interest and that is more than the electric vehicles that were sold the previous year on the whole market. So that’s exciting, ”Chalhoub revealed.

“Dubai has always been a city at the cutting edge of technology. There are already some very interesting policies in Dubai, such as free recharge, free parking, free registration, and free Salik tags. “

Chalhoub pointed out that the ratio of electric vehicle chargers in the UAE is higher than most places in Europe. “There are over 750 chargers, in 2019 the second highest number of EV chargers on the road after Amsterdam.”

“I firmly believe that adoption can be much faster. Especially in this post-Covid era, people are realizing that collective action works … We need to make conscious and exciting purchasing decisions, like electric vehicles, for pollution to go down.
