A coastal hotel in Hawke’s Bay has been named an all-time favorite by a prestigious international magazine.

The Power of the Dog and Benedict Cumberbatch have caught the world’s eyes on New Zealand. However, the chiseled beauty of the Hawke’s Bay coastline and Cape Kidnappers also turned heads.

Cape Kidnappers Farm has been named one of the all-time favorites by US publisher Conde Nast Travel. U.S. editors ogled the Scenic Sheep Ranch near Summerlee where Cumberbatch passed the lockdown.

It was named one of the top 5 Gold-listed hotels that travel editors keep coming back to.

“While the past two years have been extremely difficult, rewards like this have been very uplifting, both for the business and for the morale of our entire team,” said Jay Robertson, General Manager of Robertson Lodges.

“It’s very reassuring.”

As the borders remained closed, the lodge was grateful for the number of visitors from New Zealand who were discovering the lodge for the first time.

Comprised of 22 cottages set on 6,000 acres of farmland, it is a very private and enjoyable stay. The two world-class golf courses, but nestled in the rolling countryside, is not the main reason the editors chose the Farm. Wildlife and beach walks were the most popular highlights.

“I sleep better at this shelter than almost anywhere else on the planet,” Judge Kendall Hill wrote.

Local lamb and moon clams have been named among the best tastes on a menu, for which international audiences should travel.

It was not just the judges who fell in love with the rustic charm of the Farm. It has been named in the magazine’s reader’s favorites four times in a row from 2017 to 2020.

This year’s Gold List was a first for the US publication which was established by the seven international publishers in the US, UK, Spain, Italy, India, Middle East and China.

Drawing on the seven posts for recommendation and consensus, the 2022 list has been curated to “reflect the sensibilities and tastes of our publishers and audiences across the globe,” said Global Editorial Director Divia Thani.

The list of classics includes the South African New York Carlyle and Grootbos Safari.

However, it was dominated by large spaces and pop-up tent hotels like the Nayara Tented Camp Costarica.
