Russia wedding of the year: Maria Solodar marries Joan Schnelzauer in £ 3million ceremony in Zambia

With a sommelier from France, black caviar at every desk, and an after party that included whitewater rafting, it’s no surprise that Maria Solodar’s £ 3million nuptials to Joan Schnelzauer were dubbed the wedding of the year.

With a picturesque ceremony on the banks of the Zambezi River near Victoria Fall in Zambia, self-made millionaire bride Maria stole all the food, chefs, pop stars and most guests from her homeland to Africa by a fleet from private jets to a five-day wedding extravaganza at the Royal Livingstone Hotel.

The internet marketer married Joan, 33, an international entrepreneur based in Luxembourg, and the accompanying wines and sommeliers were delivered from France.

Russian newspaper Komosmolskaya Pravda called it the most expensive wedding of the year.

The Ukrainian-born bride who had forged her meteoric career in Russia boasted: “Many have said it was the wedding of the century… but I would say it was the adventure of the century.

“I never wanted a beautiful wedding. I don’t want to dress and do my makeup, it’s just not my style.

“I chose one of the first dresses for the fitting and took the second without even trying it on.”

“Making such a vacation from scratch in a desert is a talent. Even on public holidays in Zambia, such a scene did not exist. ‘

“The country refused to let in such a big stage, the kitchen had to wait three days at the border and only arrived three hours before the banquet,” she said. “We brought everything, everything.

“Food, drinks, chefs… we organized breakfasts with black Russian caviar, cheeses and the best wine in France, we had sommeliers, cooks, makeup artists, all the guests had their own personal style, each day had its own dress code … the amount of work was heroic.
