The House is getting ready for the holiday season

The Akron Chamber of Commerce met on Monday evening September 20 at Akron Town Hall. The meal was provided by 5 Star Dining and Grill. President Susan Watson opened the meeting with a prayer. The minutes and the treasurer’s report are approved.
Watson reported on upcoming events. On October 1st there will be a street dance on South Main. Saturday October 2 is the first annual fall festival. Also on October 2-3, the Rocky Mountain Showdown African Safari Hunt Giveaway, both held at the fairgrounds. On October 6, the health department will distribute COVID vaccines at the fairgrounds. The Ditzy Chix will be performing on October 9 at the Event Center. On October 10, Henrietta Uhlenhopp and others will hold a free concert at City Park and donations will be collected for the firefighters.
The farmer’s market will continue for a few more weeks until the fall produce runs out and the vendors are always ready to come. The month’s workcamp will continue until October and a workcamp has been chosen for this honor. A theme for the Parade of Lights will be chosen at the October meeting. The Parade of Lights will take place on December 2, the same evening as the Firefighters’ Beef Noodle Supper.
Keith Damrow showed some photos of large artificial trees available for purchase and it was approved to go ahead and buy one, if they are still available. This tree will be used on 2nd Street and Main Avenue during the Christmas season.
Then there was a discussion about buying a park bench to put downtown on Main. The city is trying to get a grant and if it can, Chamber has decided to try and get a park bench with some of the grant money. No final decision has been taken on this project.
Gini Adams of Yuma District Hospital and Akron Clinic won the $ 10 Chamber Bucks. The next Akron Chamber of Commerce meeting will be on Monday, October 18 at 11:30 a.m. at Akron Town Hall. Odells will provide lunch.
