No Plane Ticket Required: Experience an African Sunset Safari in West Melbourne

This is a rare opportunity to be able to travel to Africa to observe firsthand its most spectacular wildlife basking in the glow of the summer sunset.

But for residents of West Melbourne, this unique experience is made possible just around the corner from the house.

Starting in January, the Werribee Open Range Zoo’s premier wildlife experience, Sunset Safari, offers visitors an unforgettable, enchanting and immersive safari adventure, and runs for ten weeks through March 13.

Visitors can experience the zoo’s glorious savannah on a personalized safari bus tour as the sunset illuminates the open range, and explore the walking trails to observe some of the world’s most iconic animals, including rhinos, giraffes, zebras, ostriches, lions and hippos.

During this unforgettable evening, visitors will learn from zoo guides about efforts to combat wildlife extinction, and meet and talk to zoo staff as they navigate the hiking trails.

The tour also includes interactive and authentic drumming, song and dance performances to the rhythm and soul of Africa, and includes a range of food and drink options including bistro meals, canapes , cocktails and an African village braai.

Werribee Open Range Zoo Director Glen Holland said Sunset Safari is an authentic African-inspired experience that people can have just minutes from home. “Sunset Safari allows visitors to experience the essence of Africa and no plane ticket is required,” said Mr. Holland.

“It’s the perfect setting to connect with nature and wildlife as the sun sets over the scenic savannah.

“Through the stories your zoo guide shares, you will learn about the plight of wildlife and how you can join us on our journey to secure a future rich in wildlife.”

Sunset Safari runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday from January 8 to March 13.

Admission to the special event after hours is $ 59 for adults and $ 29 for children.

Food and beverage packages are sold separately and can be pre-booked or purchased the same evening.
