Mum charged with murder after child found dead at boyfriend’s home; Boyfriend is on the run – Online Crime
The mother of a missing 8-year-old California girl has been charged with murder after investigators found a child’s body at her boyfriend’s house in Merced.
Investigators have not said whether the body they found was that of Sophia Mason, who was last seen on February 10, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
Merced police found the body after being contacted by Hayward, Bay Area police about the missing child.
The girl’s mother, Samantha Johnson, 31, was arrested on Thursday for obstructing an office and causing bodily harm to a child and was being held in Alameda County. Merced police said they questioned her “about the deceased child found at the residence she led police to” and were ultimately charged with murder. She is still being held in Alameda County but is expected to be moved to Merced County.
Johnson’s boyfriend, Dhante Jackson, 34, reportedly fled when he learned his home was being searched. A warrant for his arrest for murder has been issued and the police are looking for him.
Police have asked anyone with information to contact Detective John Pinnegar at (209)388-7712 or by email at [email protected]
