MHT, Wego partner to promote Omani tourism

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Wego, the largest online travel market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and the Oman Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) have signed an agreement to promote tourism hot spots in the sultanate in the GCC region.

Through this partnership, Wego and Oman aim to lead the conversation around Oman across all marketing channels and social media platforms and increase visitor traffic to the country.

More than 550,000 searches were performed on Wego’s platform in the third quarter of 2021 of the GCC in Oman. Of these searches, 34% were carried out from Saudi Arabia, 27% from the United Arab Emirates, 16% from Kuwait, 14% from Qatar and 10% from Bahrain.

Haitham bin Mohammed al Ghassani, General Manager of Tourism Promotion at MHT, said: “We are delighted to partner with Wego. Oman has always been at the forefront of tourism, and this partnership reflects our commitment to continue the positive momentum in the months to come. We are confident that this association will help us promote Omani tourism among GCC countries, as well as attract more foreign investment to Oman.

Mamoun Hmedan, Managing Director, MENA and India, said: “We are seeing an increase in the number of CCG searches to Oman following the resumption of flights. We are happy to partner for the second time with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to promote this magnificent gem. Its proximity, ancient culture, verdant mountains and wadis make it the best getaway during the summer period for GCC travelers. ”

Oman has opened its borders to visitors to the GCC and recently announced that it is open to people vaccinated against COVID-19.

All travelers to Oman must present a vaccination certificate containing a QR code indicating that they have received two doses of a vaccine approved in Oman (Pfizer BioNTech, Oxford Astrazeneca, Covishield AstraZeneca, Sputnik, Covaxin, Sinovac, Moderna and Sinopharm, or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson).

The last dose of the vaccine must have been received at least 14 days before the date of arrival.
Travelers should pre-register through and download the vaccine certificate as well as the COVID-19 PCR certificate, both of which contain QR codes.
