PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Lawyers for a Pittsburgh-area dentist accused of killing his wife on safari in Africa are trying to push his case back.

Lawyers for Lawrence Rudolph said he had COVID and the case was “unusual and complex” so they needed more time to prepare.

Rudolph, the founder of Three Rivers Dental here in Pittsburgh, is charged with mail fraud, but federal investigators have exposed much more in dozens of pages of court documents.

According to the criminal complaint, authorities say Lawrence killed his wife Bianca while they were on a safari and hunting trip to Africa in 2016. Federal investigators allege he had her cremated in Africa and then did claims with seven different insurance companies totaling over $4.8 million in payouts.

Bianca’s death was ruled an accident by Zambian law enforcement and Lawrence told police he suspected the gun had been discharged as his wife holstered it, according to the complaint.

His lawyers said the couple had signed a prenuptial agreement, saying they wouldn’t lose much in a divorce. They also claimed his dental deductible was valued at almost $8 million, saying he had no financial reason to kill his wife.
