Female Popular Sketch Directors Dominate the Nigerian Internet Space

The sketch production sector of the Nigerian comedy industry continues to flourish day by day. While you laugh at the jokes and skits of these comedians, these creatives smile to the bank with millions of naira.

While the industry seems slightly male-dominated, some women are trailblazers in the skit-making field. Daily Trust spotlights some ladies who are dominating the Nigerian social media space with their fun content as they put smiles and laughter on their fans’ faces.

Born on February 28, 1999, Maryam Apaokagi, affectionately known as Taaooma, spent most of her early years in Namibia. Later, she studied Tourism and Travel Services Management at Kwara State University.

In 2015, she got into online comedy after convincing her fiancé to teach her the basics of video editing. She rose to fame in 2019 with skits based on African parenthood.

Her comedic sketches center on African mothers and their unique way of disciplining their children, particularly with a slap known as the “reset button.”

In October 2020, the funny lady got engaged to her fiancé Abdulaziz Oladimeji (aka Abula) in Namibia. They married on January 24, 2021.

Kie Kie

A few weeks ago, this delightful comedian, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kie Kie, revealed to the world that she is an expectant mother with a sweet music video and photoshoot.

Born in Ibadan on June 20, 1990, Kie Kie is also a Lagos-based television personality, model and fashion icon. She attended a private primary and secondary school in Ibadan and later studied mass communication at Bowen University in Osun State.

Later, Kie Kie earned a master’s degree in marketing from the London School of Business. In February 2020, she married Mr. Ilori. She, however, chose to keep her marriage out of the public eye.


This young Nigerian designer started her career by syncing viral videos and miming popular songs on the Nigerian internet space.

Maraji’s role plays in her comedy sketches and switches between accents and vocal pitches depending on each character she plays. Born Gloria Oloruntobi on February 6, 1997, the mother-of-one hails from Edo State.

The comedian earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Covenant University in 2017. Along with creating fun content on social media, Maraji has also been featured in the music videos for Falz’s “Something Light” and “Single and Searching.” by Yemi Alade.

Mama Wa

The name, Kemi Ikuseedun might not ring a bell to you, but when Mummy Wa is mentioned, it elicits a smile or a laugh, thanks to a fun skit the young lady did in partnership with her colleague, Mr. Macaroni.

She is popular for playing the role of Mr. Macaroni’s wife in his comedy series. She is known as Mummy Wa in Mr Macaroni’s comedy.

Born on September 26, 1996 in Orile Iganmu, Lagos State. The Lagos State native is one of three children in his family.

Also known as Kemz Mama, she had her primary education at Orile Igamu and Queens College, Yaba, both in Lagos State, where she obtained her primary and secondary school certificates respectively.

She went further to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bells University, Ota Ogun State; and a Masters in Management from the University of Lagos.

Moreover, Kemi is also a qualified member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) while she also trained as an actress at the Royal Arts Academy of Emem Isong.


Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy, is another woman who is making waves in the sketch industry. Born on July 25, 1995, the young woman is also an entrepreneur, social media influencer and content creator.

Although born in Lagos, the young woman hails from Enugu State and is the first of four children.

Additionally, she attended Good Learning School, Gbagada, Lagos State and later proceeded to Federal Government College, Enugu State for her secondary education. After which, she attended Madonna University, Elele in 2012 and graduated in 2016.

That girl Warri

Born on December 26, Oluwatoyin Albert, known to her fans as Datwarrigirl or Tomama, is a Nigerian actress, dancer, on-air personality (OAP), and comedian.

She is originally from Ondo State in South West Nigeria but grew up in Warri in Delta State.

The comedienne had her secondary education at Nana College, Warri, and Federal Government College, Ibillo, both in Delta State. Tomama then studied Theater Arts (with a major in Dance and Drama) at Delta State University, Abraka.
