Elizabeth “Bette” Hastings Donald Obituary

Elizabeth “Bette” Hastings Donald passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022, peacefully at her Highpoint Stable farm, Hilltown Township, Pennsylvania, surrounded by her family. She was 92 years old.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late William and Nancy (Wilson) Hastings.

Bette is a graduate of Jefferson Nursing School where she worked as a nurse while supporting her husband, Dr. Delmar Jack Donald, during medical school. While raising her four young children in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, Bette returned to college where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Bette and her husband ran a standard breed racing stable under the name Highpoint Stable. In 1979 they purchased their farm in Hilltown where Bette bred and bred standard-bred horses for the stable. Highpoint Stable Farm was her joy and her passion and a place where she was surrounded by loving neighbors and friends.

Bette was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Deep Run, Perkasie, Pennsylvania, and a woman of great faith and independent spirit.

Every summer, Bette and her family would summer at Harvey Cedars, Long Beach Island. She owned and managed many properties in Harvey Cedars and developed the bay community known as Highpoint. Bette loved the sun and the sea and all the family memories made on Long Beach Island. She also loved to travel and often took her whole family to islands with one last trip on an African safari at the age of 87.

Bette’s husband predeceased her in 1993. She is survived by her four loving children, Robert Donald, of Wayne, PA, William Donald, of Bethesda, MD, Kathryn Giusti and her husband Paul, of New Canaan, CT, and Karen Andrews, of Old Greenwich, Connecticut. She was also adored by her grandchildren, Nicole Giusti, David Giusti, John Andrews Jr., Kathryn Andrews, Tyler Andrews, Elliot Donald and Rory Donald.

Bette was the center of our family and always told us that family comes first and you can’t create too many traditions. She created so many beautiful traditions that we will now carry on with her in our hearts.

His funeral will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday May 14, 2022 at Deep Run Presbyterian Church, 16 Irish Meetinghouse Road, Perkasie, where family and friends can call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. . Interment will follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA.
