Bali offers vaccine vacation to increase visits

In an effort to revive Indonesia’s languid tourism industry, the government has partnered with travel agencies to offer tours with vaccines to attract domestic travelers, with Bali being chosen for the pilot project.

“We are targeting domestic tourists because, according to our observation, Indonesians are attracted to the vaccine tours offered in other countries, including the United States,” he said, adding that the program is operated by designated travel agencies, which at this initial stage are ATS Vacations, TX Travel and BMW Tours.

The tourist destinations that customers will visit, he said, have already received CHSE (cleanliness, health, safety and environment) certificates. The Covid-19 vaccines offered in the packages range from Sinovac and AstraZeneca to Pfizer and Novavax, depending on availability.

TX Travel has launched six types of vaccine packages, all of which include a 14-day hotel stay, two-dose vaccine, and travel insurance. Prices range from 4.1 million rupees (281 USD) to 14.7 million rupees, depending on the type and location of accommodation.

Anton Thedy, CEO of TX Travel, said TTG Asia that the agency’s vaccine tours have received positive feedback from the domestic market, with interest coming from various regions, including Bangka Island and Cianjur in West Java.

“We get a lot of inquiries from small towns, where vaccine distribution remains uneven. In Jakarta vaccines are available (in various places), but in small towns people still do not know how to get vaccinated. So they want to go to Bali not only to get vaccinated, but also for a vacation, ”he said.

Jeffry Budiman, managing director of BMW Tours, said that with government support for the immunization program, the agency can benefit from not only promotional support, but also guaranteed vaccine availability. Agency clients are also given priority to book a vaccination slot and can skip the line to get stung first upon arrival at the vaccination site.

He expects greater uptake of the vaccination program among domestic travelers, who would no longer need to travel overseas to countries like the United States, but could opt for a domestic trip to Bali for themselves. vaccinate instead.
